Working creatively to identify opportunities to deliver all the extra assistance we can to those most in need.

Eaga Charitable Trust

The Eaga Charitable Trust (eCT) is an independent grant-giving trust that supports projects and research in two main areas: the relief of fuel poverty and the promotion of energy efficiency; and vulnerable consumers – multiple needs and preferences.
Since the inception of the eCT in 1993, Eaga has donated over £3.3 million to the Trust, which has been given in grants for action and research projects into the causes of fuel poverty and its impacts on health. For the financial year 2008/9, Eaga donated a further sum to the Charitable Trust, supporting many new research projects throughout the UK and Internationally. Here is one example

Solar PanelseCT Case Study

Sheffield Hallam University Materials and Engineering Research Institute were successful in their application to the Trust to develop a research project around the role of domestic renewable energy technologies in alleviating fuel poverty. The project will investigate the role that domestic renewable energy technologies, such as solar thermal hot water heating systems and heat pumps, can play in alleviating fuel poverty in the UK. This project will involve the collection and longitudinal analysis of detailed energy generation and consumption data from two groups of existing houses that are to be fitted with renewable energy technologies. The data from these houses and a sample of control properties will be used to determine the impact of the newly installed renewable energy technologies on levels of fuel poverty and the ability of low-income households to maintain a satisfactory heating regime.

Warm Front Support

As part of our ongoing commitment to customers under the Government-funded Warm Front Scheme, we made a further donation of £1 million to help address the issue of customer contributions towards domestic heating and insulation improvements. Whilst many families and households struggle to make ends meet during these challenging economic times, this additional assistance given to thousands of customers, ensured that work went ahead regardless of their financial position.

Eaga Stars

Every month throughout the year, Partners throughout the business are nominated for Eaga Stars (Special Thanks And Recognition). Where individuals or teams surpass what is naturally expected of them in order to give extra special assistance to a customer, we like to reward these efforts with recognition across the company. Following a colleague being admitted to hospital urgently whilst at work at a remote property, Helen Jones and David McMinn stayed with a customer until 10pm on a Friday night to ensure her oil-fired boiler was working and she had heat and hot water. Helen, who normally works in Administrative Support, left the office and drove out to help David and together they completed all outstanding work leaving behind a very happy – and warm – customer!
